Leningrad in the summer of the early 1980s: The records of Lou Reed and David Bowie are being smuggled in, an underground rock scene is coming together. The "hero” of this scene is Mike Naumenko, who enthrals the youth with his music and his band Zoopark, while repeatedly testing the limits of state censorship.
One day, as Mike and Zoopark are celebrating with fans at the beach, they meet the young musician Viktor Tsoï. Mike recognises Victor’s great talent and helps him take the first steps of his musical career. "Pure melancholy in punk music and black-and-white.” Kino-zeit
