To be sure, Green Border is a politically significant film and it is as topical as ever. With this film, Agnieszka Holland challenged the Polish government, and it led to her being threatened by right-wing populists and confronted with boycott calls. One could go on to say a great deal more about the political significance and impact of Green Border. Yet our real, immeasurable debt of gratitude to Agnieszka Holland is owed to the fact that she has made a movie that is also of oustanding cinematic significance. She has erected a moving and innovative milestone in the history of film.
